| Institutul de Etnografie și Folclor "Constantin
Brăiloiu" a fost fondat în anul 1949, ca un
institut de cercetări etnologice. Principalele sectoare de
cercetare ale institutului sunt: folcloristică, etnomuzicologie,
etno coreologie, ethografie, arhivistică.

Constantin Brăiloiu Institute of Ethnography and
Folklore was founded in 1949 as an ethnological research
institute. It consists of several sections in the following
fields: folkloristics, ethnomusicology, ethno choreology,
ethnography, archives.
The Romanian Academy started the first audio-visual folk fieldwork
collections in 1910. These collections were gathered in sonorous
and visual archives belonging to the Ministry of Cults and Arts
(1927) and to the Society of Romanian Composers (1928). Since
1949, the funds of the three institutions entered the Collections
belonging to the Institute of Ethnography and Folklore.
The Archives has oral culture documents, in sonorous, visual and
written forms. There are also collections gathered in mine working
communities (exploitation of gold, silver, salt, coal, talc, lime,
etc).
The Institute has an annual publication, the Institutes Year
Book: Anuarul Institutului de Etnografie si Folclor <C.Brăiloiu>.
The research results are revaluated and published in the volumes
of the series: National Folklore Collection, the Ethnographic
Romanian Atlas, Document. Romanian Folk Archives.
